Dr. Elsa Ma. V. Unson, the college President had implemented the Dynamic Learning Program, popularly known as the Bernido Approach since the commencement of the Curriculum Year 2012-2013. The DLP was adopted from the Central Visayan Institute Foundation.
The new program was designed to enable a schedule of classes that harmonizes with natural biological cycles. It places proverbially more difficult subjects in the earlier morning periods when the student’s minds are still fresh and more capable of longer concentration time.
The said approach works on the principle of a “Learning is by doing” where seventy percent of the time of the students goes to their activities and the remaining thirty percent for the teacher’s discussion.
The traditional use of notebook was replaced with the use of activity sheets which will be kept in a Comprehensive Students Portfolio.
Instead of Lesson Plans, every Expert Teacher has a Comprehensive Teacher’s Portfolio containing all copies of the learning activities given to the students and a year-long plan of Learning Activities with complete references and timetable.
A “No Homework Policy” was also implemented. No homework is given for all subjects, for all day. Moreover, learning activities and projects cannot be brought home. Thus, school work is done at school.
San Carlos College is said to be the first school to adopt Bernido Approach in Pangasinan.
