“Sometimes the simplest things are the most profound. My job is to bring out in people & what they wouldn’t dare do themselves“
Graduation is one of the most-awaited events every student is anticipating. College is a long and hard journey to all and the best way to wrap it up is to hear your name, walk up the stage and accept the diploma you’ve worked on for four years or more. It’s also the end for cramming, late night studying, doing assignments, paper works, examinations, and all other stressful parts of being a college student – basically, studying… or is it?
There are a number of options college graduates have right after their graduation. One of the most sought after goals of fresh graduates after earning their diplomas is taking the PRC board examination. In order to achieve it, graduates continue to review extensively by themselves to pass the board examination. In line with this is another option which is to enroll in a review center to further equip themselves when they take the board examination.
Thus, more extensive and comprehensive schooling is pursued by a lot of students after graduation. The level of education an employee possesses has been a basis for salary rate, job opportunity, and office position. Because of these motivating factors, a lot of college degree holders continue to level-up their careers by studying further like taking masters and doctorate degrees. By earning more titles and suffixes attached to their names, they have the chance to receive higher salary, their job opportunities to greater heights, and their positions to higher statures.
Education after graduation doesn’t always include formal schooling. Waves of fresh graduates choose to seek for a job after years of studying. The corporate world offers a different kind of education as compared to formal schooling like the application of what they have learned during college, practical guidelines to follow, and a more hands-on approach to learning. A college education is the “training ground” for most students and once they enter the “real battle”, the working environment, a whole new level of applied education awaits them.
2019 Election: Game-Changer for the Youth
It is in the hands of the expected 63M voters to change the grim outlook of our country. There’s always hope and we, the youth, can live the dreams of Dr. Jose Rizal as “Kabataan na pag-asa ng bayan” by choosing the most competent, honest and deserving candidates who will serve as the voices of the people and lead us to become a progressive nation. The world is on the path towards the renaissance of terror. For the first time in 60 years, the global economy is expected to shrink, with known progressive countries like Japan, China, and Germany are experiencing slowdowns. Going back home, inflation is of a major issue where additional taxes are still underway, hence, rates of price changes are expected to remain above targets. Alongside, increased numbers of teenage pregnancies, the population is expected to increase to 109 million which means more people to feed, pricier necessities. Economically speaking, there’s no doubt, the Philippines is in its dire situation. How will the government positions be held to play its role for its people? What is the essence of choosing the right candidate? How will it affect the youth of this country? The May 2019 Senatorial and Local Government election is fast-approaching. As the COMELEC sets Campaign Period, political candidates’ advertisements in the television and radio keep popping out. The streets are full of posters and tarpaulins with the faces of our politicians and noisy caravans with risk bands or printed shirts being thrown. In Miting de Avance, anxious politicians play the role of a clown by cheering up the crowd. Here, elections are closer to celebration of fiesta. Regardless of the excitement and colorful elections, we still see it as a cyclical exercise of suffrage where people would just fill thousands of national and local posts, then, everyone would just forget and go on with their lives. As much as we want change, May 2019 election can change the play of the game. The whole country will elect municipal, provincial and regional officials, the House of Representatives, and half of the members of the Senate. Where President Rodrigo Duterte enters midway through his 6-year term, May 2019 election can be the venue where the people, through their votes, express contentment, satisfaction, or support to the government or, in contrast, disappointment. It is the chance where we can choose the people to create the proper laws and regulations that could help make our society better. By incorporating the values of honesty, commitment, and service, we could ascertain as to whether this politician acts what he/she speaks. We must not forget that despite the popularity of a politician, they’re still politicians who read the multitudes, rides your sentiments, and persuade you by speaking what you want to hear. With technology and the internet, we are easily persuaded by what we read on social media. The ideas and beliefs of youth today can be effortlessly influenced by false articles. By electing the competent political candidate, the youth could be provided with proper education, safe environment, convenient transportation, high-quality information, and communication – resulting to a secured future generation. As they say, do not always depend on the government, yes, it’s true but choosing the right government will always be beneficial in many ways. As the youth faces insurmountable real-life problems, we could turn tables and change the situation by electing the right officials. Is 2019 a year of awakening or will it just push us into the pit of kangkungan?
