HISTORY

The San Carlos College which was formerly known as PIEAS (Pangasinan Institute of Education, Arts and Sciences) is ideally situated in Mabini Street, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.

This school was founded by the late retired Superintendent Fortunato C. de Veyra with the assistance of people with genuine devotion and dedication to serve in the field of education.

The PIEAS formally opened in November, 1946. The initial curricular offering was the Elementary Teacher's Certificate (ETC). In the succeeding year, the Secondary course was offered, and subsequently, the Elementary course. The demand for high school teachers led to the opening of the four-year BSE course and eventually the Liberal Arts courses.

In 1958, his son-in-law, Dr. Romualdo A. Concepcion took over the administration of the school.

In 1959, to meet the demand for commercial course, the College of Commerce and Secretarial Department were added to the programs of instruction. The Graduate Course in education was opened in 1964 to assist public as well as private school teachers upgrade their educational qualifications.

In the early nineties, to keep pace with the rapid advancement in the field of information technology, basic computer education was integrated in accountancy and commerce courses and shortly after in the teacher education program. Consequently, San Carlos College entered into a partnership with Informatics Computer Institute which affords the college the use of the latest computer hardware and software responsive to the demands of manpower and technology in the global business and industrial community.

Upon the assumption of Atty. Arturo B. de Veyra as President and Chief Operating Officer in 1996, the administration embarked on a massive building construction, facilities acquisition, school plant maintenance and faculty development program.

During the third quarter of 1998, the institution embarked on an ambitious Sports Development Program with the encouragement and able support of Atty. de Veyra who is a sports enthusiast. Today, San Carlos College is one of the few schools in Region I that maintains a functioning and continuing Sports Development Program equipped with adequate and modern sports facilities as well as hired trainers of national stature.
