Chair Magno Declares April 17 as Founder’s Day
In order to honor the founder of San Carlos College, Mr. Regino V. Magno, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, declared April 17 as Fortunato C. De Veyra Day. The late Fortunato C. De Veyra was the founder of then Pangasinan Institute of Education, Arts and Sciences (PIEAS) now known as San Carlos College in 1946. He also founded Urbiztondo Private High School (UPHS) in 1948.
His entire life was dedicated to Education. He was sent to the United States as a Pensionado to train as an Educator. Upon his return to the Philippines, he was assigned to various educational positions around the country. He acted as Principal/Superintendent at various locations: Manila, Tacloban, Lucena, and Dagupan.
His family adopted and lived out his Educational Mission. His spouse, Filomina Bobis, from Tobaco, Albay, was an instructor in Spanish. Eldest child Gloria Concepcion served as Registrar. Sonin-law Romualdo Concepcion was President.
Daughters Estrella Unson, Belinda Austria, Ofelia De Veyra, Rogelia Magno, Patria Mataban, Lucenita Sartaguda, and Carmencita Magallanes served in this school and other institutions in teaching, administrative positions or on the Board of Trustees. Son Atty. Arturo De Veyra served as Executive Vice President, then President from 1996 to 2010
Grandchildren Elsa Ma. V. Unson and Edward Vincent V. Unson also served as Presidents. The San Carlos College Hymn was composed by grandchildren Dr. Edgardo V. Unson and Ellen U. Virina. Other grandchildren served or are serving on the Board of Trustees.
For the Founder’s ideals of service to Education, to this institution, and to the graduates seventy plus years to date, and their families whose lives were Improved by their education; and to firmly implant these ideals and dedication in the consciousness of the students and alumni, faculty, and administrative staff. Be then known to all that April 17 which is the birth anniversary of Fortunato C. De Veyra as Founder’s Day.
SCC at 73: Hailed as Success
San Carlos College celebrated its 73rd Foundation Anniversary anchored by the theme, “SCC @ 73: One Vision, One Mission… Continuing the Journey to Greater Heights” in a week of activities held at SCC Gymnasium from February 11 to 16, 2019, chaired by Dr. Alicia Peralta, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
SCC Spawns 54 New LPTs, 6 CPAs
Being the nest of quality graduates, San Carlos College produce 58 passers in the Licensure Examination for Teacher and CPA board examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission last March and October 2017 and May 2017, Respectively. In connection with the celebration of annual National Disaster Awareness and Preparedeness Month, San Carlos College conducted a school-wide Training and Symposium on July 27-28, 2017 at the San Carlos College Forum Hall and Gymnasium with the theme "4K's: Kamalayan at Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan." The Two-day Affair aims to train the Institutional Calamity Management Team (ICMT) members of San Carlos College abd to educate the other member of the institution about the different factor to consider before, during and after a calamity order to maintain order and to minimize casualties.
As a part of the living legacy, the College of Accountancy and Business Administration held its annual tradition of celebrating BESO Fest last September 28-30, 2017 at San Carlos College Gymnasium with the theme, "Achieving Holistic Growth through talents and skills exploitation towards unity and excellence". The years celebration brought more fun and enjoyment not only to the college students but also to the new part of the family, the Grade 12 - accountancy, business and management senior high school student. The organization have prepared many exciting activities such as Accounting Quiz Bee Management Quiz Bee, Board Games, Rubrics Cube Contest Ball Games, Amazing Race and a lot more Parlor Games.
